I'm not afraid! This is the man I love! Danika comes to know that the man she loves, Reyes, has been charged with living with a horrible demon. However, her desire for him did not waver. Once a spy of the human organization, Hunters, that are trying to kill them, she soon left their organization and confessed everything to Reyes. Subsequently, the Hunters marched in to recapture Danika and a bloody battle begins! She is just an American tourist, so why is she being targeted by both the Guardians and the Hunters? This is the third story of a tense series!

I should start off saying I loved the manga versions of The Darkest Night and The Darkest Kiss. I absolutely did not like either of The Darkest Pleasure manga books. It will become instantly clear that the artist had no clear understanding of Showalter's vision for these books and took what I consider inexcusable liberties with the characters and storyline.

I cannot believe that Showalter had anything to do with this project. Her name is listed as an author, but there is no way that she could have ok'd such a bastardization of the storylines.

As a manga reader, I did not like it because:
The characters were drawn unattractively and looked like 60s Archie comic book characters in futuristic drum major costumes.
The Lords all looked like women.
The plot dragged through thoughts and conversation with little of the action and "on the run" scenes that move the plot in a graphic novel and which you often see in manga.
The characters were drawn far too differently from the other manga versions of the books (though I realize that the artist is different for all 3 of the sets).

As a LoTU Showalter fan, I HATED it because:
The Lords all looked like women and were grossly unattractive-- complete opposite of the books. Paris looks like Liberace's boy toy.
The characters are underdeveloped. The book starts with Danika being coerced by the Hunters to spy for them on the Lords. It really needed some of the background to why she got caught and how she had been living since leaving the fortress. (And calling Dean Stefano "Stephan" with virtually NO backstory on why he was a Hunter and so fanatically seeking the demise of the Lords????)
Reyes is an annoying pansy in this book, and he looks more like Wonder Woman than a demon-possessed Lord of the Underworld.
Aeron's Legion looks like a toy lizard and seems out of place in her introduction. She has no lisp, which is kind of key to her initial characterization. Aeron's location (whether chained near Hell or in the dungeon of the fortress) is always wrong.

There are HUGE plot inaccuracies!!!!!! It's as if the artist took a cursory look at the book, skimmed through it, and jotted down only the few things he remembered.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT (if you haven't read the original novel)****
Examples: How Danika gets to the heavens, Ashlyn's pregnancy and its result, plot revelations from Paris rather than Reyes, Reyes and Danika NOT going on the run to search for her grandmother (which is kind of critical to the whole plot), locations for the story, etc. etc. It goes ON AND ON.
Unfortunately, I found myself more annoyed by the artwork to the point that I began to flip through both of The Darkest Pleasure manga books, reading the dialogue, and trying desperately to get to the inane ending.
I highly recommend the first two. Skip this one. It's really bad. I wish I could "unread" both of them.

Yes, I liked the art and the story!
I love this series, it's art and storyline, and will continue to await the next one, but I took one star off cause my main pet peeve is the fact that alot of the character's appearances keeps changing throughout each "story" that at first I had a difficult time figuring who some characters are at first when reading the next "volume".
Some characters have minor changes (maybe it's done by a different artist) but still are closely consistent enough for me to recognize them (and it's fine if they changed hairstyles some or clothing, that's being realistic). But then some characters have such a total 180 change that I was wondering if they simply got the names mixed up. Maybe it's being done by different artists, which I can see since some styles are a little mixed up at times, I dunno, but one example is when the aspect of Pain goes from being short haired and blonde in the first volumes to dark skinned and black hair (and it being longer and styled differently in this latest work) it made me wonder what the heck went on, in what could be considered a short amount of time storyline-wise ^^;; His first looks could easily be mistaken for the guy who's aspect is Defeat in this one. Other main ones like the aspect of promiscuity also changes looks dramatically look in each volume from girly looking to manly to kind of girly looking again. Ironically some lesser ones and a couple of main ones remain similar. If ya seen all of them to this point you'll know what I'm talking about ^^;;
