The Ultimate Guide on Service Dogs How to Obtain Care For and Live Peacefully with your Service Dog! edition by Cooke Osborn Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks
I was very disappointed in this book. The author told me how to groom, feed, and care for any dog. There was not mention of what training occurs other than a section saying that the training is specific, but the author failed to outline basic training or even the IAADP Min. Standards for Public Access Test that evaluates the dog's obedience and manners and the handler's skills in a variety of situations which include:A. The handler's abilities to: ( 1 ) safely load and unload the dog from a vehicle; ( 2 ) enter a public place without losing control of the dog; ( 3 ) to recover the leash if accidently dropped, and ( 4 ) to cope calmly with an access problem if an employee or customer questions the individual's right to bring a dog into that establishment.
B. The dog's ability to: ( 1 ) safely cross a parking lot, halt for traffic, and ignore distractions; ( 2 ) heel through narrow aisles; ( 3 ) hold a Sit-Stay when a shopping cart passes by or when a person stops to chat and pets the dog; (4 ) hold a Down Stay when a child approaches and briefly pets the dog; ( 5 ) hold a Sit Stay when someone drops food on the floor; hold a Down Stay when someone sets a plate of food on the floor within 18" of the dog, then removes it a minute later. [the handler may say "Leave It" to help the dog resist the temptation.] ( 6 ) remain calm if someone else holds the leash while the handler moves 20 ft. away; ( 7 ) remain calm while another dog passes within 6 ft. of the team during the test. This can occur in a parking lot or store. Alternatively, you could arrange for a neighbor with a pet dog to stroll past your residence while you load your dog into a vehicle at the beginning of the test.
I felt like I did not get my money's worth. I wanted to know a lot more about what makes a good service dog, how to train one or at least some links to reliable aid or references.

The Ultimate Guide on Service Dogs How to Obtain Care For and Live Peacefully with your Service Dog! edition by Cooke Osborn Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
This guide to service dogs is pretty detailed. I learned some things I didn't know. I would recommend this book
There's a lot responsibility for a service dog, so you want to make sure you get the right training. Not only does "The Ultimate Guide on Service Dogs" show you how to traing your service dog, but it also guides you through the process of caring for the dog's health, if it were to get sick...all the way to the rules and regulations of what a service dog can and cannot do.
It is very thorough in terms of answering all the necessary questions without the added fluff as most other dog training books do.
As a dog owner I'm all about strategies - and one particular thing I enjoyed was it talked about two types of training methods like positive re-inforcement and negative re-informent and how the two can impact how the dog will react. This way you can avoid confusing your dog and ensure that it feels loved. As you give and love to the service dog, it will give back in so many ways by serving because it wants to, not because it is forced to.
I look forward to your future installments of service dog training.
I recently obtained my first puppy and had no experience training one. After purchasing a few different dog help books, I came across this book for kindle. My dog is still a puppy but thought I would look this over since service dogs are highly trained and for the price of the book, thought I may pick up some tips. I am thrilled I made that decision!! The book is easy to read and understand and I have picked up quite a few training and dog tips that I already started implementing in my puppy's routine! And within a very short time can see some changes with his behavior!I strongly recommend this book even if your like me, and just looking for some ideas on working with a dog, even without it being in a service dog role.
Easy to read. Covers all the FAQ's people may wish to know about service dogs. I train for a guide dog agency & I learned something new. I chose to read this to better understand what goes on for the recipient of a service dog and I was not disappointed. A good read for anyone involved with service dogs. A MUST read for those who may be considering obtaining a service dog.
Did glia good job of reviewing the laws (assuming grammar and punctuation errors do not drive you to distraction) but was pretty vague on the how to train the animal. I will keep it as a reference on the law. I wish I could offer to do a round of copy editing on it; increased accuracy in the use of English would make this booklet far more useful and less annoying to read.
This is a very well researched guide. Not only it covers the requirements to get a service dog in the United States, but also teaches you how to raise and train your dog.
I have enjoyed the chapter about feeding, although probably the most useful part for me is the chapter dedicated to the health of the dog. This is something that always worries me. I have learned many things that can be applied to any dog, not only service dogs.
It's also nice that the book helps you to handle the expenses, especially in this Economy.
This book provides only the most basic information, but is a good read nonetheless. It left me with many questions unanswered and didn't provide personal insight.
